Kurzbeschreibung

In this paper, I will analyse changes in immigration policies in Germany and the UK in the aftermath of 11 September 2001 (9/11) with special regard to connections between security and asylum issues in public discourses and the impact of anti-terror security measures on the theoretical foundation of Western Liberal Democracy. I will thereby link my research to reports currently published by the MIDAS-Project at Birmingham University (though some of them are partly unfinished) in order to relate discussions on securitisation of asylum issues to philosophical approaches towards discourse analysis and democratic theory.
